Book Dirk Nowitzki
Dirk Nowitzki is a German basketball legend, born June 19, 1978, who spent his entire 21-season NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks. A product of the DJK Würzburg club, the seven-footer was drafted ninth overall in 1998 and immediately traded to Dallas, where his feathery outside touch and signature one-legged fadeaway changed how big men play. He led the Mavericks to 15 playoff appearances, their first NBA Finals in 2006 and their only championship in 2011, when he was named NBA Finals MVP. In 2007 he became the first European to win the NBA Most Valuable Player Award. He was a 14-time All-Star and a 12-time All-NBA selection, retired as the highest-scoring foreign-born player in league history, and earned ESPY Awards for Best NBA Player and Best Male Athlete in 2011. Germany honored him with its Cross of the Order of Merit, and he has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (2023), Germany's Sports Hall of Fame (2025) and the FIBA Hall of Fame (2026). Now a special advisor to the Mavericks and an UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Nowitzki brings humor, humility and global appeal to every appearance.
