Book Gary Payton
Gary Payton, known throughout basketball as "the Glove," is a Hall of Fame point guard celebrated for suffocating defense and relentless trash talk. After a decorated four-year career at Oregon State, he joined the Seattle SuperSonics in 1990 and became the heart of the franchise, setting team marks in assists and steals and leading Seattle to the 1996 NBA Finals. That same year he won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award, the first point guard ever to do so. Payton earned nine All-Star selections, nine All-NBA honors and nine All-Defensive First Team nods, tying the best mark in league history for that defensive honor. Later stops with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Miami Heat took him back to the Finals with the Lakers in 2004, and in 2006 he finally captured a championship with Miami. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013 and named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021. Payton brings big personality, competitive fire and vivid stories from a golden era of NBA guards.
