Book Toni Childs

Toni Childs is an American-born singer-songwriter based in Australia, known for a deep, earthy voice and music that draws on world rhythms and spiritual themes. Her path to the spotlight was unusual: in 1979 she stood in for singer Terri Nunn at several Berlin shows, then fronted the Los Angeles band Toni and the Movers, which included future Red Hot Chili Peppers member Jack Sherman and future Bangle Micki Steele. Seeking to sharpen her songwriting, she signed a publishing deal with Island Music in 1981 and moved to London, trading studio chores for rent and recording time while playing with musicians linked to Peter Gabriel, Shriekback and The Waterboys. She signed with A&M Records in 1985 and released her debut album, Union, in 1988, which brought a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist; she has earned three Grammy nominations in all. Her catalog continued with House of Hope (1991), The Woman's Boat (1994), Keep the Faith (Gratitude Edition) (2009), Citizens of the Planet (2014) and It's all a Beautiful Noise (2015). Childs brings a powerful, soulful presence and songs rich with global textures to the concert stage.
