Emerson Hart is the singer, guitarist and songwriter who co-founded Tonic in Los Angeles in 1993 with guitarist Jeff Russo and has led the band ever since. Tonic signed with Polydor Records in 1995 and released Lemon Parade the following year, which produced "Open Up Your Eyes" and "If You Could Only See," the most-played rock radio song of 1997. "You Wanted More" came from the 1999 album Sugar, and Head on Straight in 2002 earned the band two Grammy nominations, including Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for "Take Me As I Am." Hart co-wrote "Generation," the theme to the NBC drama American Dreams, and received an ASCAP award for it in 2003. His solo albums are Cigarettes and Gasoline (2007), Beauty in Disrepair (2014) and 32 Thousand Days (2019). Since 2018 he has performed alongside Mark McGrath and Kevin Griffin in Ezra Ray Hart.
