Book Cracker

Cracker is an American rock group launched in 1990 by singer David Lowery and guitarist Johnny Hickman, boyhood friends from Redlands, California. After Lowery's earlier band Camper Van Beethoven split, the pair moved to Richmond, Virginia, and cut a demo fans came to call the Big Dirty Yellow Demos, then recruited bassist Davey Faragher and signed with Virgin Records in 1991. Their self-titled debut Cracker (1992) delivered "Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now)," which hit number one on the Modern Rock chart, plus "Happy Birthday to Me." The 1993 follow-up Kerosene Hat became their biggest record, with the hits "Low," "Get Off This" and "Euro-Trash Girl." The band has kept a steady output with The Golden Age (1996), Gentleman’s Blues (1998), Forever (2001), O' Cracker Where Art Thou? (2003), Countrysides (2003), Greenland (2006), Sunrise in the Land of Milk and Honey (2009) and the double album Berkeley to Bakersfield (2014). Their sound mixes rock with punk, grunge, psychedelia, country, blues and folk, giving the band a wry, roots-savvy edge. Cracker brings sing-along '90s alternative anthems and the loose, rollicking spirit of a road-tested rock and roll band.
