Book Marcy Playground

Marcy Playground is the American alternative rock band behind "Sex and Candy," the 1997 hit that held the number-one spot on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart for months in a row. Singer and guitarist John Wozniak named the group after the Marcy Open School in Minneapolis, the alternative school he attended, since many of his songs grew out of childhood memories. His first self-produced effort, Zog BogBean – From the Marcy Playground, was recorded in a bedroom studio in the early 1990s and later supplied songs such as "Our Generation" and "Dog and His Master" to the band's albums. The self-titled breakthrough Marcy Playground (1997) was followed by Shapeshifter (1999), MP3 (2004) and Leaving Wonderland... In a Fit of Rage (2009). The current lineup pairs Wozniak with bassist Dylan Keefe and drummer Shlomi Lavie, and the band joined the Summerland Tour with the Gin Blossoms in 2012. Wozniak cites David Bowie, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana and the Beatles among his influences. Marcy Playground brings a laid-back, hook-heavy set of 1990s alternative favorites, anchored by a song Gen X audiences know by heart.
