Book Savoy

Savoy is a Norwegian-American rock trio formed in 1994 by Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, the songwriter and guitarist famous from the Norwegian synth-pop band a-ha, together with his wife Lauren Savoy on vocals and guitar and drummer Frode Unneland. Where a-ha built its sound on sleek synthesizers, Savoy takes a more grounded, indie rock approach, with every song written by Paul and Lauren. Lauren is also a filmmaker, and Unneland is a fixture of the Bergen music scene who has played with Chocolate Overdose, Popium and Sondre Lerche. The band has been a critical favorite in Norway, earning three Spellemann Award nominations and winning Group of the Year twice. Their releases include Mary Is Coming (1996), Lackluster Me (1997), Mountains of Time (1999), Reasons to Stay Indoors (2001), See the Beauty in Your Drab Hometown (2018) and Under (2024), plus the 2007 double-disc Savoy Songbook Vol. 1 with the singles "Karma Boomerang" and "Best Western Beauty." Fan favorites include "Velvet," later recorded by a-ha, "Rain," "Star," "Grind You Down," "If You Won't Come to the Party" and "Whalebone" from the film Hawaii, Oslo. Savoy delivers melodic, guitar-rich rock with a famous pop pedigree.
