Book Richard Thaler

Richard Thaler is a Nobel Prize-winning economist and a founding figure of behavioral economics, the field that explores how real people make decisions. He holds a distinguished service professorship in behavioral science and economics at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and in 2017 he received the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his work bringing psychology into economic analysis. Thaler earned his doctorate at the University of Rochester, began his teaching career there, and spent a pivotal year at Stanford working with Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky, whose ideas helped him explain the many quirks in how people handle money and choices. He has also taught at MIT and Santa Clara University, served as president of the American Economic Association in 2015, and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2018. His books Nudge (2008) and Misbehaving (2015) brought his ideas to a mass readership and influenced policy makers worldwide. Thaler is an engaging, witty speaker on decision-making, smart policy design and why people do not always act like textbook rational actors.
