Book Robert Aumann
Robert Aumann is a Nobel laureate in economics, honored in 2005, alongside Thomas Schelling, for using game theory to explain conflict and cooperation. The Israeli-American mathematician joined the mathematics faculty of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1956 and is a professor at its Center for the Study of Rationality. He has been a visiting professor at Stony Brook University since 1989, where he helped found the Stony Brook Center for Game Theory, and has held visiting posts at Berkeley, Stanford and the Université catholique de Louvain. His central work concerns repeated games. He was the first to define correlated equilibrium, gave game theory its first formal treatment of common knowledge, developed the Aumann–Shapley value with Lloyd Shapley and proved the agreement theorem showing that rational Bayesians with common priors cannot agree to disagree. With Michael Maschler he applied game theory to a Talmudic inheritance puzzle. He is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences, and his prizes include the Israel Prize, the Harvey Prize, the John von Neumann Theory Prize, the Lanchester Prize, the Nemmers Prize and the EMET Prize.
