Book Kishi Bashi
Kishi Bashi is an American singer-songwriter, violinist and filmmaker based in Santa Cruz, California, known for lush, joyous chamber pop built from looped violin, layered vocals and inventive arrangements. Born Kaoru Dill-Ishibashi in Seattle and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, he studied engineering at Cornell, where he co-founded the band Tamarisk, before studying film scoring at Berklee College of Music and turning to the violin. He became a founding member and singer of the New York electronic rock group Jupiter One, spent several years in the band of Montreal, and toured internationally as a violinist with Regina Spektor. Going solo in 2011, he released his debut album 151a (2012) on Joyful Noise Recordings, quickly earning attention from NPR's All Songs Considered. He followed with Lighght (2014) and Sonderlust (2016), then Omoiyari (2019), a project that grew into a song film, with Music from the Song Film: Omoiyari arriving in 2023. His sixth album, Kantos, came out in 2024. Kishi Bashi's concerts are celebrated for their virtuosic live looping, playful energy and emotional sweep, creating an one-man orchestra that leaves audiences uplifted.
