Book Jussie Smollett
Jussie Smollett is an American actor, singer and filmmaker whose career began in childhood. He appeared in The Mighty Ducks (1992) and Rob Reiner's North (1994), and he starred with his five siblings in the ABC sitcom On Our Own in the mid-1990s. As an adult he returned to the screen with the lead role in the comedy-drama The Skinny (2012), and that same year he released the EP The Poisoned Hearts Club. His widest exposure came from 2015 to 2019 playing the musician Jamal Lyon on the Fox drama Empire, opposite Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard, a role that put his voice at the center of the show's soundtrack. That work brought a run of NAACP Image Awards in 2016, including Outstanding New Artist, Outstanding Song, Outstanding Duo or Group and the Chairman's Award, plus Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2017. He signed with Columbia Records in 2015 and released his debut album, Sum of My Music, in 2018. His film credits also include Alien: Covenant (2017). On stage he brings soulful pop and R&B vocals shaped by years of screen performance.
