Hi-Five is an American R&B vocal group from Waco, Texas, that topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991 with "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)." The act began in 1989 as a trio of childhood friends, Tony Thompson, Russell Neal and Toriano Easley, and Jive Records grew it into a quintet by adding Roderick "Pooh" Clark and Marcus Sanders before signing the group that same year. Their self-titled debut Hi-Five (1990) launched the chart-topping single, and the group followed with Keep It Goin' On (1992) and Faithful (1993), building a catalog of smooth harmony ballads and up-tempo grooves. Over the years the lineup also included Treston Irby, Shannon Gill and Terrence Murphy, and a later edition of the group returned with The Return (2005). Hi-Five stands among the signature teen R&B vocal groups of the early 1990s. Its shows deliver tight harmonies, slow-jam favorites and a No. 1 smash that audiences still sing word for word, making for a nostalgic, feel-good set for fans of the era.
