Book Geographer
Geographer is a synth-pop and indie rock project founded in San Francisco in 2007 by singer and songwriter Mike Deni, who calls his sound "soulful music from outer space." Deni moved west from New Jersey in 2005, found a synthesizer on the street and began shaping the songs that became Innocent Ghosts, released independently in 2008. Playing open mics around the city, he recruited cellist Nathan Blaz and drummer Brian Ostreicher, and the debut drew enough attention that Spin named Geographer one of three undiscovered bands worth hearing. After signing with Bay Area label Tricycle Records, he issued the 7-inch single "Kites" in 2009 with a cover of New Order's "Age of Consent," then the EP Animal Shapes (2010). Full-length releases followed with Myth (2012), Ghost Modern (2015), Down and Out in the Garden of Earthly Delights (2021) and A Mirror Brightly (2024), alongside the 2015 EP Endless Motion. Blending analog synths, electronics and acoustic instruments into lush, layered textures, Geographer delivers an atmospheric, emotional live show anchored by Deni's soaring vocals.
