Book Amber Coffman
Amber Coffman is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist now based in Los Angeles, best known for her soaring vocals with the indie rock band Dirty Projectors. Raised musically in San Diego, she played guitar in the instrumental math rock outfit Sleeping People before relocating to New York at 22. She joined Dirty Projectors in 2006, starting with the tour behind Rise Above, and stayed through a celebrated run of records: Bitte Orca (2009), the Björk collaboration Mount Wittenberg Orca (2010), Swing Lo Magellan (2012) and the About to Die EP (2012). Her lead vocal on "Stillness Is the Move" became a breakout moment for the group, and critics singled out how her silky, melismatic delivery pulled the band's adventurous sound toward pop. She also helped shape the vocal interplay on songs like "Useful Chamber" and "Gun Has No Trigger." Coffman stepped out on her own with City of No Reply in 2017, a solo debut she had been writing since 2011. Live, she brings a gorgeous, agile voice and a songwriter's sense of melody to stripped-down or full-band settings.
