Book Carbon Leaf
Carbon Leaf is an American band from Richmond, Virginia, whose sound mixes indie rock with Celtic, folk and alt-country flavors. Formed at Randolph-Macon College in 1992, the group cut its teeth at campus parties and on the East Coast college circuit before moving into clubs, and it has kept writing and performing ever since. Founders Barry Privett, Terry Clark and Carter Gravatt lead the current lineup with Jon Markel and Jesse Humphrey. Early independent albums Meander, Shadows in the Banquet Hall (1997) and Ether: Electrified Porch Music (1999) were released on the band's own Constant Ivy Music label, followed by Echo Echo (2001). After signing with Vanguard Records in 2004, they released Indian Summer, featuring their signature song "Life Less Ordinary," which reached number five on Billboard's Adult Alternative chart. Later albums include Love, Loss, Hope, Repeat (2006), Nothing Rhymes With Woman (2009), Ghost Dragon Attacks Castle (2013), Constellation Prize (2013) and Time Is the Playground (2024), thirteen studio albums in total. A Carbon Leaf show pairs bagpipe-tinged melodies, warm harmonies and rousing, story-driven songs with decades of road-tested energy.
