Book Billy Davis, Jr.
Billy Davis Jr. is an American singer and a founding voice of the 5th Dimension, a heavily awarded vocal group of the late 1960s. He joined the group, then known as The Versatiles, in 1966, and the following year their Jimmy Webb song "Up, Up and Away" became a breakthrough hit that collected four Grammy Awards. "Stoned Soul Picnic" followed, and the medley "Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In," drawn from the musical Hair, held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1969 and took Record of the Year. In 1975 Davis and Marilyn McCoo left to work as a duo, debuting in 1976 with I Hope We Get to Love in Time. Their single "You Don't Have to Be a Star (To Be in My Show)" hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 in early 1977 and earned another Grammy, bringing his total to seven wins. That same year the pair hosted The Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis Jr. Show on CBS, becoming the first married African-American duo to front a network TV series. Davis brings timeless soul-pop classics and effortless showmanship to any stage.
