Book Richard Carpenter
Richard Carpenter is an American musician, songwriter, arranger and producer who formed one half of the Carpenters with his younger sister Karen. In the duo he was the pianist, keyboardist, producer, arranger and songwriter as well as a harmony vocalist. He began with the Richard Carpenter Trio, which won the Hollywood Bowl Battle of the Bands in 1966, and the pair signed to A&M Records in 1969. His arrangement of "(They Long to Be) Close to You" spent four weeks at number one in 1970, and "We've Only Just Begun" reached number 2. Writing with lyricist John Bettis, he composed "Goodbye to Love" (1972), "Top of the World" (1972), "Yesterday Once More" (1973) and "Only Yesterday" (1975), with "Top of the World" reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Under his own name he released Time (1987), Pianist, Arranger, Composer, Conductor (1997) and Richard Carpenter's Piano Songbook (2022). He has won three Grammy Awards and earned 12 nominations. As a performer and musical director he carries the polished studio craft of the Carpenters' classic sound.
