Book Villagers
Villagers is the acclaimed Irish indie folk project of Dublin singer-songwriter Conor J. O'Brien, admired for his intricate arrangements, inventive production and thought-provoking lyrics. O'Brien launched Villagers after the end of his earlier band, The Immediate, having sharpened his craft as a guitarist in Cathy Davey's band, and the group played its first show supporting The Chapters at Whelan's in Dublin in 2008. The debut album Becoming a Jackal (2010) earned rave reviews along with shortlist spots for both the Mercury Prize and the Choice Music Prize. The follow-up, {Awayland} (2013), went on to win the Choice Music Prize and also made the Mercury Prize shortlist. Darling Arithmetic (2015), an intimate and stripped-back record, won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Album in 2016, the same year that brought the live reworkings collection Where Have You Been All My Life? O'Brien continued with The Art of Pretending to Swim (2018), Fever Dreams (2021) and That Golden Time (2024), releasing through Domino. Villagers has toured widely across Ireland and Europe and played the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia, offering audiences beautifully crafted songs performed with warmth and emotional depth.
