Book The Swell Season
The Swell Season is a folk rock duo formed by Irish songwriter Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, a singer and pianist from the Czech Republic, whose partnership grew into a worldwide stage act after the 2007 film Once. Directed by John Carney, the movie starred the two as dramatized versions of themselves, and its song "Falling Slowly" won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 2008 ceremony. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2006, and they adopted the group name formally in 2008 after using it for concerts. They also contributed a version of Bob Dylan's "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" to the 2007 soundtrack of I'm Not There. The second studio album, Strict Joy, followed in 2009. The name comes from Josef Škvorecký's 1975 novel of the same title, Hansard's favorite book, and the duo's quiet, intimate harmonies made them a favorite in theaters and festivals.
