Book Vanessa-Mae

Vanessa-Mae is a Singaporean-born British violinist famous for fusing classical technique with pop and electronic music, a style she calls "violin techno-acoustic fusion." A professional by ten, when she first played a festival in Germany, she set a record at thirteen as the youngest soloist to have recorded the violin concertos of both Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. Her pop breakthrough came with The Violin Player in 1995, produced and largely written by Mike Batt, which sold four million copies. The title track of Storm (1997) showcased her blend of classical training with techno and synth-pop influences, and she went on to release albums including China Girl – The Classical Album 2 (1998), Subject to Change (2001) and Choreography (2004). She played the violin solo on the title song of Janet Jackson's The Velvet Rope (1997) and contributed a version of the Beatles' "Because" to George Martin's In My Life (1998). She performed in the interval act at the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest in Birmingham and joined the 1999 Michael Jackson & Friends shows in Munich and Seoul. Her shows pair virtuosic electric violin with high-energy production.
