Book Emanuel Ax
Emanuel Ax is a Polish-American classical pianist with a recording and awards record that stands out among keyboard artists of his generation. He studied with Mieczysław Munz of the Juilliard School from age twelve, took first prize at the 1974 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, and received the Avery Fisher Prize in 1979. Since 1973 he has partnered with cellist Yo-Yo Ma in recital, and together they have put much of the cello and piano repertoire on disc; he also made chamber music with violinists Isaac Stern and Jaime Laredo. His discography runs to about 70 studio albums, and he has won eight Grammy Awards from 21 nominations, the most recent for Beethoven: Cello Sonatas - Hope Amid Tears with Ma. A champion of living composers, he has given premieres of piano works by John Williams, Christopher Rouse and Bright Sheng, along with Century Rolls by John Adams. He has taught at Juilliard since 1990, was inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame in 2012, holds the John Jay Award, and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
