TMBG, the Brooklyn alternative rock group, started in 1982 as a partnership between John Flansburgh and John Linnell, two friends who shared singing, guitar and keyboard duties. In the early years the pair often performed as a duo, backed by a drum machine or a tape machine, and in 1992 they added a live band, which now features Danny Weinkauf, Dan Miller and Marty Beller. The group has recorded twenty-four studio albums, among them a self-titled debut in 1986, Lincoln in 1988, Flood in 1990 and Apollo 18 in 1992. They won a Grammy Award for a song written for visual media in 2002 and another for a musical album for children in 2009, and they have received an Annie Award nomination. Witty, hook-heavy and a bit odd, They TMBG appeal to adults and families alike and are a dependable pick for a festival or an all-ages concert.
