The New Mastersounds are a four-piece funk, soul-jazz and blues outfit from Leeds, England, celebrated for tight, groove-heavy instrumentals and a reputation as a must-see live band. The group grew out of The Cooker, a Leeds nightclub run by guitarist and producer Eddie Roberts, where in 1999 he and drummer Simon Allen added bassist Pete Shand and Hammond organist Bob Birch to create a live act to play alongside the DJs. Their recorded output is deep, running from Keb Darge Presents: The New Mastersounds (2001) and Be Yourself (2003) through 102% (2007), Ten Years On (2009), Out on the Faultline (2012), Therapy (2014), Made for Pleasure (2015), The Nashville Session (2016), Renewable Energy (2018), Shake It (2019), The Deplar Effect (2022), Feel The Spirit (2023) and Old School (2024). They have worked with Lou Donaldson, Corinne Bailey Rae, Quantic, Mr Scruff, Karl Denson and the Soul Rebels Brass Band, and have toured the US, Japan and Europe. Expect extended jams, sharp musicianship and dance-floor funk.
