Book Youngblood Brass Band
Youngblood Brass Band is a Madison, Wisconsin, ensemble that fuses New Orleans-style brass with hip-hop beats and punk energy into a high-octane live sound. The players originally formed in 1995 under the name One Lard Biskit Brass Band, putting out Better Recognize locally, and adopted the Youngblood name in 1998 with Word on the Street. Its independent 2000 album Unlearn, featuring guests Talib Kweli and Mike Ladd along with DJ Skooly and Ike Willis, brought the band wide notice and a deal with Ozone Music NYC, which issued Center:Level:Roar in 2003. The live set live. places. followed in 2005, and Is That a Riot? (2006) was backed by extensive international touring and festival dates. Sousaphonist and arranger Nat McIntosh returned for Pax Volumi, released by Tru Thoughts in 2013, and the band marked two decades with the compilation 20 Years Young in 2017 and the Covers 1 EP in 2018. Having toured widely across the United States and Europe, Youngblood brings a thunderous horn section, tight drum grooves and a street-party spirit to every stage.
