Book Stephin Merritt
Stephin Merritt is an American songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist, the creative force and principal voice behind the Magnetic Fields, the Gothic Archies and Future Bible Heroes, and the founder of the 6ths. His deep bass voice and witty, literate songwriting have made him a cult favorite in indie pop. He wrote "Scream and Run Away" for Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, and his songs filled the soundtrack of the Nickelodeon series The Adventures of Pete & Pete. Under his own name he scored the films Eban and Charley (2000) and Pieces of April (2003). With director Chen Shi-Zheng he created three music theatre works, The Orphan of Zhao (2003), Peach Blossom Fan (2004) and My Life as a Fairy Tale (2005), with highlights collected on Nonesuch as Showtunes. From 1999 to 2005 he was part of the live-only trio the Three Terrors, staging themed evenings of French pop and film songs. He also wrote and sang "I'm in a Lonely Way" for a 2007 Volvo commercial. Merritt brings sharp lyrics, dry humor and a singular baritone to the stage.
