Book Shame
Formed in 2014, Shame is a South London post-punk five-piece: singer Charlie Steen, guitar players Eddie Green and Sean Coyle-Smith, Josh Finerty on bass and Charlie Forbes on drums. The group came up through the Windmill scene in their home neighborhood of Brixton, alongside fellow South London bands Black Midi and Squid, and took their name from a phrase coined by Forbes' father at the Queen's Head pub. They began writing songs while still in secondary school, releasing the EP Gone Fisting in 2014. Signed to Dead Oceans, Shame released the debut album Songs of Praise in January 2018 to strong reviews, and its success earned them a main stage slot at Reading and Leeds that August. The band followed with Drunk Tank Pink (2021), Food for Worms (2023) and Cutthroat (2025), winning positive notices from NME, Paste and Clash along the way. Known for wiry guitars and sardonic lyrics, Shame has built a reputation as a thrilling live band. Expect raw, sweaty, high-energy post-punk delivered with wit and abandon.
