Book Maps & Atlases
Maps & Atlases is an indie rock band from Chicago, formed in fall 2004 when its founding members met as art students at Columbia College Chicago. Drawing on alternative rock, folk and experimental music, and often grouped with math rock, the band rose out of a Chicago underground scene where post-hardcore, punk, indie and emo shared stages. The founding lineup of Dave Davison on guitar and vocals, Erin Elders on guitar, Shiraz Dada on bass and Chris Hainey on drums set out to pair technical playing with an organic, accessible sound. After signing with Barsuk Records in 2010, the band released its debut full-length Perch Patchwork that year, followed by Beware and Be Grateful in 2012 and Lightlessness Is Nothing New in 2018, which arrived with a North American tour. Alongside three EPs, the group has played the festival circuit, including SXSW and CMJ, and toured nationally with acts such as Foals, Minus the Bear, Ra Ra Riot, Portugal. The Man, mewithoutYou and The Fall of Troy. Live, Maps & Atlases delivers intricate guitar work, inventive rhythms and warm, melodic vocals.
