Book Randy Johnson

Randy Johnson, the towering left-hander known as "the Big Unit," is a retired Major League Baseball pitcher whose blazing fastball and wicked slider made him a nightmare for hitters across 22 seasons from 1988 to 2009. Standing 6 feet 10 inches, he entered the majors as the tallest player in league history and pitched for six clubs, chiefly the Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks, along with the Montreal Expos, Houston Astros, New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants. After taming early control problems, he led his league in strikeouts nine times. Johnson won five Cy Young Awards, in 1995 and then four straight from 1999 to 2002, joining Greg Maddux as the only pitchers to win it four years running, and he won it in both leagues. In 2001 he won three games in the World Series and shared Series MVP honors with Curt Schilling as Arizona beat the Yankees, and in 2002 he captured the pitching Triple Crown. A 10-time All-Star, he finished with 303 wins and 4,875 strikeouts, second all time behind Nolan Ryan and tops among lefties, and threw no-hitters in both leagues. Johnson brings fierce competitive stories.
