Book David Ortiz
David Ortiz, the beloved "Big Papi," is a Dominican-American baseball icon and a true standard-bearer for designated hitters. After six seasons with the Minnesota Twins, he joined the Boston Red Sox in 2003 and became the heart of a team that broke its 86-year championship drought in 2004, then won again in 2007 and 2013. He was named MVP of the 2013 World Series and also earned League Championship Series MVP honors in 2004. Over 14 seasons in Boston he made ten All-Star teams, won seven Silver Slugger Awards, earned the Edgar Martínez Award as the best designated hitter in the American League eight times, and set the club's single-season mark with 54 home runs in 2006. He also won the Hank Aaron Award twice, the Roberto Clemente Award in 2011 and the Babe Ruth Award in 2013. Ortiz retired after a superb final season in 2016 with 541 career home runs, entered the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2020 and the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022. Today he works with Fox baseball coverage, and he brings an infectious smile, clutch-moment stories and huge fan appeal to every room.
