Book Procol Harum

Formed in 1967 in the Essex seaside town of Southend-on-Sea, Procol Harum were an English rock group forever associated with "A Whiter Shade of Pale", their 1967 debut single and a global smash. Built on the partnership of singer and pianist Gary Brooker and lyricist Keith Reid, the band blended baroque and classical touches with psychedelic rock, early progressive rock, blues, R&B and soul. Brooker formed the group with Reid after their songs found no takers, recruiting a lineup that soon included organist Matthew Fisher and drummer B. J. Wilson. Their influential albums include Shine On Brightly (1968), A Salty Dog (1969), Home (1970), Broken Barricades (1971), Grand Hotel (1973), Exotic Birds and Fruit (1974), Procol's Ninth (1975) and Something Magic (1977). The band later reunited for The Prodigal Stranger (1991), followed by The Well's on Fire (2003) and Novum (2017). In 2018 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honored them by inducting "A Whiter Shade of Pale" into its new Singles category, after nominating the group as performers in 2012. Procol Harum came to an end following Brooker's death in 2022, leaving a timeless catalog of majestic, organ-rich rock.
