Book Paul Rusesabagina

Paul Rusesabagina is a Rwandan humanitarian and former hotel manager whose courage during the 1994 Rwandan genocide became the basis of the acclaimed film Hotel Rwanda (2004), in which Don Cheadle played him. As manager of the Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali, he sheltered 1,268 people, both Hutu and Tutsi, who were fleeing the Interahamwe militia, and none of those in his care were harmed. The story turned him into an internationally recognized voice on human rights, and he built a long career as a public speaker, appearing frequently at universities across the United States. In 2005 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. His other honors include the Wallenberg Medal and the Order Ecce Homo. In 2006 he established the Hotel Rwanda Rusesabagina Foundation to carry his advocacy forward. Rusesabagina speaks about moral courage under extreme pressure, the power of one person to protect many lives, and the responsibility of ordinary people to act when the world looks away, a message rooted in his own firsthand experience.
