Book Neneh Cherry
Neneh Cherry is a Swedish singer and songwriter whose genre-blurring mix of pop, hip-hop and dance music shaped the sound of the late 1980s. Born in Stockholm in March 1964 and raised partly by her stepfather, the American jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, she started out in London's punk and post-punk scene, singing with the Slits and Rip Rig + Panic. Her 1989 solo debut, Raw Like Sushi, became an international success on the back of the single "Buffalo Stance". She followed it with Homebrew in 1992 and Man in 1996, and a duet with Youssou N'Dour brought her a MTV Europe Music Award. After a long stretch of side projects, including the band cirKus, formed in 2006, and The Cherry Thing, a 2012 album made with the jazz trio the Thing, she returned with the solo album Blank Project in 2014. Her most recent release, The Versions, arrived in 2022 with other artists reworking her songs. Cherry has won two Brit Awards and earned a Grammy nomination, and her half-brother is singer Eagle-Eye Cherry.
