Book Max Tegmark

Max Tegmark is a Swedish-American physicist, author and AI researcher who has become a leading voice on the future of artificial intelligence. A professor of physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which he joined in 2004 after earning tenure at the University of Pennsylvania, he began his career as a cosmologist. His research in precision cosmology developed data analysis tools that were applied to cosmic microwave background experiments including COBE and WMAP and to major galaxy surveys such as the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, and in 1998 he helped propose baryon acoustic oscillations as a cosmic yardstick. His 2014 book Our Mathematical Universe explored the deep links between mathematics and physical reality, and his 2017 book Life 3.0 lays out scenarios for how the world could change as AI advances. He co-founded the Foundational Questions Institute and, with Anthony Aguirre, the Future of Life Institute, a nonprofit he leads that works to reduce catastrophic risks from powerful technologies. His honors include a Packard Fellowship in 2001 and the KTH Great Prize in 2015. Tegmark makes cosmic questions and AI's stakes vivid for any audience.
