Book Matt Ross

Matt Ross is an American actor, writer and director known for sharp, memorable characters on prestige television and for an award-winning career behind the camera. He played Alby Grant across five seasons of HBO's Big Love (2006 to 2011) and the scene-stealing tech mogul Gavin Belson on Silicon Valley (2014 to 2019). His film credits include 12 Monkeys (1995), The Last Days of Disco (1998), American Psycho (2000), Just Visiting (2001) and The Aviator (2004), and he played Eddie Scott in Good Night, and Good Luck (2005), sharing a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination with the cast. He also appeared as Charles Montgomery in two seasons of FX's American Horror Story. As a filmmaker, Ross made seven short films, including The Language of Love, before his first feature, 28 Hotel Rooms, debuted at Sundance in 2012. He then wrote and directed Captain Fantastic (2016), starring Viggo Mortensen, which earned him the directing prize in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes and earned Mortensen an Academy Award nomination. Ross offers audiences an insider's view of acting and directing, told with intelligence and dry humor.
