Book Catherine Keener

Catherine Keener is an American actress admired for layered, emotionally honest work in independent cinema and for scene-stealing supporting turns in studio films. She has twice been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, first for Being John Malkovich (1999) and again for playing author Harper Lee in Capote (2005), a performance that also won her critics' prizes in Los Angeles, Boston, Toronto, Washington and Dallas-Fort Worth. Her portrayal of Gertrude Baniszewski in An American Crime (2007) brought a Primetime Emmy nomination, and her honors also include BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations. Keener is a longtime creative partner of director Nicole Holofcener and has worked repeatedly with Tom DiCillo and Spike Jonze. Her wide-ranging credits include The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Into the Wild (2007), Synecdoche, New York (2008), Where the Wild Things Are (2009), Get Out (2017) and Joker: Folie à Deux (2024), plus voice roles in The Croods (2013) and Incredibles 2 (2018). On television she starred in the Showtime dramedy Kidding and famously guest starred on Seinfeld. She brings a warm, unguarded intelligence to every conversation about craft.
