Book Mairead Corrigan Maguire
Mairead Corrigan Maguire is a peace activist from Northern Ireland and a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1976 she co-founded Women for Peace with Betty Williams and Ciaran McKeown, a grassroots movement that grew into the Community for Peace People and called for a peaceful end to the Troubles. That same year she and Williams were awarded the 1976 Nobel Peace Prize, and the pair also received the People's Peace Prize and the Carl von Ossietzky Medal in 1976. In 1990 Maguire was honored with the Pacem in Terris Award. She later helped found the Nobel Women's Initiative, a network of women Nobel Peace laureates. Known in earlier years as Mairéad Corrigan, she has spent decades as an advocate for nonviolence, reconciliation and disarmament. Maguire speaks with moral clarity and lived experience about building peace in divided communities, offering audiences a moving, first-hand story of how ordinary people can change the course of a conflict.
