Book Ladyhawke
Ladyhawke is the stage name of New Zealand singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Pip Brown, whose synth-driven pop draws on the new wave and rock of the 1980s. She took the name from Richard Donner's 1985 fantasy film. Brown played lead guitar in the Wellington band Two Lane Blacktop, including a show at New York's CBGB, before moving to Australia and forming the art rock group Teenager with Nick Littlemore of Pnau. Relocating to London, she released her self-titled debut album through Modular Recordings in 2008. It went to number one on the New Zealand albums chart and produced five singles, including "My Delirium," "Paris Is Burning," "Back of the Van" and "Dusk Till Dawn." At the 2009 ARIA Music Awards in Australia she won Breakthrough Artist in both the album and single categories, and she has also been named Best Solo Artist at New Zealand's national music awards. Her later albums are Anxiety (2012), Wild Things (2016) and Time Flies (2021), and after periods living in London and Los Angeles she returned home to New Zealand. She plays guitar, bass, drums and keyboards on her recordings.
