Book Jill Scott

Jill Scott is a three-time Grammy winner with 14 nominations, a Philadelphia singer, songwriter, poet and actress who came out of the city's spoken-word scene. Questlove of the Roots discovered her at poetry readings and brought her into the band's studio, and her 2000 debut, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds, Vol. 1, earned her a Best New Artist nomination. She won Best Urban/Alternative Performance twice, for "Cross My Mind" and "Daydreamin'," and Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for her version of "God Bless the Child." Her albums continued with Beautifully Human, The Real Thing, The Light of the Sun, Woman and, in February 2026, To Whom This May Concern. Scott has built an equally strong screen career. She debuted in Hounddog and Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married? in 2007, starred as Precious Ramotswe in the BBC and HBO series The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, played James Brown's second wife Deidre Jenkins in Get on Up, and appeared as Lady Eve on The CW's Black Lightning and in the series First Wives Club. Her neo-soul catalog and poetry roots give her a voice few R&B artists can match.
