Book Harlem Gospel Choir
The Harlem Gospel Choir is a celebrated American gospel ensemble rooted in Harlem, New York, and a leading name in American gospel. Allen Bailey founded the group on Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, January 15, 1986, and it released the album Harlem Gospel Choir in 1997. The full company draws on about 40 singers and musicians from Harlem and the wider New York area, while touring units travel lean, with nine vocalists plus keyboards and drums. The choir has sung for Pope John Paul II and for Presidents Carter and Obama, and has shared stages with artists as varied as Diana Ross, Bono, Harry Belafonte, Jimmy Cliff, Josh Groban, Nile Rodgers, Lyle Lovett, Trace Adkins, The Chieftains and André Rieu. Television viewers have seen them on Good Morning America, Top Chef: New York, The Colbert Report and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Touring internationally every year, they were the first gospel choir from the United States to appear in countries including Australia, China, Russia and Morocco, and they have played Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Yankee Stadium. The choir delivers uplifting, joyful, roof-raising performances.
