Book Duffy
Duffy is a Welsh singer and songwriter whose retro-soul debut made her an international star in a single year. Raised in North Wales, she sang in local bands as a teenager and appeared on the Welsh TV talent show Wawffactor before signing a record deal. Her first album, Rockferry (2008), rooted in 1960s soul and blue-eyed pop, topped charts in several countries, propelled by the single "Mercy," a worldwide hit. Rockferry earned her a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album, one of three Grammy nominations she received, including a nod for Best New Artist, and she collected three Brit Awards, among them Best Female and British Breakthrough. She released a second album, Endlessly, in 2010 and made her film acting debut that year in Patagonia. In 2015 she appeared in the film Legend and recorded three songs for its soundtrack, which marked her last public performances. Duffy's voice, a husky, vintage-styled instrument that drew comparisons to the great soul singers of the 1960s, and songs such as "Mercy" remain staples of radio and playlists, and her small but celebrated catalog continues to be cherished by fans of classic soul-inspired pop.
