Book Big Country

Big Country is the Scottish rock band from Dunfermline, Fife, famous for guitars engineered to ring like bagpipes and anthems with wide-open, Celtic-tinged melodies. Formed in 1981, the classic lineup paired frontman and guitarist Stuart Adamson, previously of the Skids, with Bruce Watson on guitar, Tony Butler on bass and Mark Brzezicki on drums. The debut album, The Crossing (1983), gave them their signature hit "In a Big Country," which reached the US Top 40, and brought a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Steeltown (1984) and The Seer (1986) followed, the latter featuring "Look Away" and a title-track collaboration with Kate Bush. Later albums include Peace in Our Time (1988), No Place Like Home (1991), The Buffalo Skinners (1993), Why the Long Face (1995) and Driving to Damascus (1999). After Adamson's death in 2001, surviving members regrouped in 2007 for anniversary shows and later welcomed singer Mike Peters, releasing The Journey (2013), their first new studio album in 14 years. Big Country delivers soaring, fist-in-the-air rock with a heritage sound that still fills rooms with sing-along choruses.
