Book Tracy Austin
Tracy Austin is a tennis champion, former world No. 1 and longtime commentator whose prodigious rise made history. She held the top WTA singles ranking for 21 weeks and won 30 tour-level singles titles, including the US Open crowns of 1979 and 1981. Her 1979 victory, at age 16, makes her the youngest women's singles champion in US Open history. She also captured the 1980 Wimbledon mixed doubles title alongside her brother John, took the 1980 WTA Tour Championships plus the 1981 Toyota Championships, and represented the United States in the 1978 Wightman Cup and Billie Jean King Cup. Austin turned pro just before her 16th birthday in 1978, winning in Filderstadt that month and then beating Martina Navratilova in back-to-back finals in Tokyo and Washington. The Associated Press named her its Athlete of the Year in 1979 and 1981, and at 29 she became the youngest inductee into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. She later received the Sarah Palfrey Danzig Award and wrote Beyond Center Court: My Story. A respected broadcaster, she brings championship insight and engaging storytelling.
