Book Todd McFarlane
Todd McFarlane created Spawn, whose 1992 debut issue sold 1.7 million copies, a record for an independent comic book, and he co-founded and serves as president of Image Comics, the publisher that helped launch the creator-owned comics movement. The Canadian artist first became a superstar on Marvel's Spider-Man titles in the late 1980s, drawing the first full appearance of Venom on The Amazing Spider-Man. He turned his success into a business empire: McFarlane Toys ranked as the fifth-largest American action-figure maker by 2017, and Todd McFarlane Entertainment, his film and animation studio, produced HBO's Todd McFarlane's Spawn, which won a 1998 Primetime Emmy for animation. His studio's animated video for Korn's "Freak on a Leash" took home a Grammy in 2000 in the short-form music video category, and he made Pearl Jam's animated "Do the Evolution" video and Korn's Follow the Leader album art. He produced the 1997 film Spawn starring Michael Jai White, was once a co-owner of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers and is known for collecting record-setting home run baseballs. His honors include the Inkpot Award, the Joe Shuster Award and induction into the Canadian Comic Book Hall of Fame.
