Book Douglas Coupland
Douglas Coupland is a Canadian writer and visual artist, trained as a sculptor, whose 1991 debut novel Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture became an international hit and put the terms Generation X and McJob into everyday speech. He wrote it while living in the Mojave Desert and has since published dozens of books, among them Microserfs, Girlfriend in a Coma, Hey Nostradamus!, God Hates Japan and JPod, along with story and essay collections and a study of Marshall McLuhan for the Extraordinary Canadians series. His journalism has appeared in Wired, The Guardian, the Financial Times and The New York Times. Art has become his main focus: his retrospective Everywhere Is Anywhere Is Anything Is Everything toured Vancouver and Toronto in 2014 and 2015, and Bit Rot showed in Rotterdam and Munich. His public works include Vancouver's Digital Orca and pieces in Toronto's Canoe Landing Park. Coupland is an Officer of the Order of Canada and a member of the Order of British Columbia and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, was twice long-listed for the Giller Prize and received the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence in 2017.
