Book The Orwells
The Orwells were a rock band from Elmhurst, Illinois, a suburb west of Chicago, with Mario Cuomo on vocals, Dominic Corso on guitar, Grant Brinner on bass and Henry Brinner on drums. The members came together at York High School, and blogger Justin Gage discovered them in late 2011 and signed them to his Autumn Tone imprint. Their debut album, Remember When, arrived in August 2012, and MTV named them one of the overlooked artists of that year. The band played Lollapalooza in August 2013, appeared on Later... with Jools Holland that November and opened nine American dates for Arctic Monkeys in early 2014. Their signature song, "Who Needs You" (2013), was performed on the Late Show with David Letterman, featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto V and used in an Apple commercial for the iPad Air 2. Disgraceland (2014) also carried "Dirty Sheets" (2014), while the earlier single "Mallrats (La La La)" drew notice from Pitchfork. Terrible Human Beings followed in 2017, and the band disbanded in August 2018. The Orwells were known for raw, high-energy garage rock.
