Book Steel Pulse
Steel Pulse is a roots reggae band from the Handsworth district of Birmingham, England, formed in 1975 around David Hinds and Basil Gabbidon. Their debut single, "Kibudu, Mansetta And Abuku," appeared that year, and after supporting Burning Spear and joining Rock Against Racism shows alongside punk acts they signed to Island Records, where "Ku Klux Klan" was their first single. The album Handsworth Revolution was recorded in 1977 and released in 1978, and it started a catalog of twelve studio albums that includes Tribute to the Martyrs, Caught You, True Democracy, Earth Crisis, State of Emergency, Victims, Vex, Rage and Fury, African Holocaust and Mass Manipulation in 2019. Steel Pulse won a Grammy for best reggae recording with Babylon the Bandit, becoming the first act from outside Jamaica to take the reggae prize, and they have earned nine Grammy nominations in all. Their concerts pair deep, rolling bass lines and layered vocals with uncompromising lyrics about racism and social justice, delivered by a tight, seasoned band.
