Book SOJA
SOJA, short for Soldiers of Jah Army, is a Grammy-winning reggae band from Arlington, Virginia, known for uplifting messages and big, warm grooves. Formed in 1997 by frontman Jacob Hemphill, bassist Bob Jefferson, drummer Ryan Berty and percussionist Ken Brownell, friends since their school days, the group recorded Creeping In in 1998 and its first full-length, Peace in a Time of War, in 2002. Get Wiser (2006) and Born in Babylon (2009) widened their reach, and Strength to Survive went to No. 1 on Billboard's Reggae Albums chart. The eight-piece band followed with Amid the Noise and Haste (2014), Poetry In Motion (2017) and Beauty in the Silence (2021), which won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album; SOJA has earned three Grammy nominations in all. More recent releases include Beauty in the Acoustic (2024) and Without Surrender (2026), and fans also know the concert film SOJA – Live in Hawaii. Now recording for ATO Records, SOJA remains a road-tested touring act whose shows blend roots reggae, rock and hip-hop into a joyful, communal experience.
