Book Slayer
Slayer, the thrash metal pioneers out of Huntington Park near Los Angeles, began in 1981 with guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, drummer Dave Lombardo and bassist-vocalist Tom Araya. The band defined extreme metal with Reign in Blood and followed it with South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss, Divine Intervention, God Hates Us All, Christ Illusion, World Painted Blood and Repentless in 2015, twelve albums in all. Grammy.com lists two wins and five nominations, including two awards for Best Metal Performance for "Eyes of the Insane" and "Final Six." Hanneman died in 2013, and Slayer completed its farewell tour in 2019, with later reunion appearances at select festivals. Slayer is counted among thrash metal's Big Four with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. Their live shows are famous for speed, aggression and precision.
