Book Néstor Torres

Néstor Torres is a Puerto Rican jazz flutist from Mayagüez whose sound bridges Latin jazz, charanga, pop and classical traditions. He started flute lessons at 12, studied at the Escuela Libre de Música and Inter-American University, and after moving to New York at 18 studied jazz alongside classical performance at New York's Mannes College of Music and at Boston's New England Conservatory. His album This Side of Paradise (2001) won Best Pop Instrumental Album at the 2nd Annual Latin Grammy Awards. Torres has built a long catalog that includes Morning Ride (1989), Dance of the Phoenix (1991), Talk to Me (1996), Burning Whispers (1999), Treasures of the Heart (1999), Mi Alma Latina (My Latin Soul) (2002), Sin Palabras (2004), Dances, Prayers and Meditations for Peace (2006), Nouveau Latino (2008), Del Caribe, soy!: Latin American Flute Music (2017) and Jazz Flute Traditions (2018), with roots reaching back to Orchestra Afro-Charanga, Vol.II (1980). In 2010 he joined the Florida International University faculty as a guest artist in residence and founded its School of Music's first charanga ensemble. In concert he offers lyrical, rhythmic flute melodies with tropical warmth.
