Book Naturally 7
Naturally 7 is a seven-voice group from New York City that recreates a full band using nothing but human voices, a style the members call "vocal play." Started in 1999 by the Thomas brothers, Roger and Warren, of Rosedale, Queens, the group imitates drums, bass, guitars, horns, harmonica and even turntable scratches, layering them under tight soul and gospel-rooted harmonies. Early on they won a major New York a cappella competition and went on to further wins at the national level, then chose to be both a vocal group and a band at once. Their catalog runs from the debut Non-Fiction (2000) and What Is It? (2003) through Ready II Fly (2006), Wall of Sound (2009) and VocalPlay (2010), plus later sets such as Hidden in Plain Sight: Vox Maximus, Vol. 1 (2015), Both Sides Now (2017), Cool Grooves…Naturally (2018) and Naturally 7 @theMovies, Volume One (2024). Holiday fans can also turn to Christmas... It's a Love Story (2004) and A Christmas Xperience (2018). In concert the effect is genuinely jaw-dropping: audiences hear a complete groove-heavy band and then realize there are no instruments on stage.
